Please read our Terms below for details. PLEASE NOTE: We take our photos in natural light outdoors and as a result there are sometimes reflections or shadows or glare shown in the blades. In person none of these exist; we will say so in the description if it may be otherwise. This uniquely beautiful antique carving/slicing knife is almost as much a work of folk art as it is one of the most effective slicing/carving knives any chef will ever wield. It's guaranteed to become one of the best friends any professional chef or butcher will ever have for slicing meats, fowl, fish, tomatoes, onions or just about anything else.
It comes to us as part of a much larger collection of knives we obtained from Italy and is one of those pieces that was not made in any factory but more likely by the original person who used it. It's finer than the vast majority of such knives, though. Most were made by either reclaiming a blade from some other knife or saw or other tool and sandwiching whatever materials were available for handles, but this piece shows real craftsmanship and skill.
It has a substantial and comparatively stiff blade, not wimpy at all, made from some fine hand-forged carbon steel. Handle is a gorgeous chunk of figured hardwood with a hand-wrought brass ferrule at its bolster. This bolster has been further reinforced with a small, spherical iron sandwiching, very much in the manner of the fine old knives made in the USA by Landers Frary and Clark in their legendary Samuel Lee line of knives.
It's a beautiful conversation piece, too, and ready to serve a lifetime of outstanding service. As with all carbon steel blades it must be kept dry to prevent rusting but will deliver world-class performance on every cut. If you're a dedicated amateur or professional chef with an eye for the right tool for the right job, you know that a knife like this can unleash your inner artist and assist you in creating the finest possible presentation on any dish that requires precise slicing or carving, from carving a Thanksgiving turkey to plating translucent carpaccio. Measures 21.5" overall with 14-5/8" blade but by any measure a great knife at an even better price and an instant heirloom for even the most discriminating chef or collector.
